Molly infuses her works with layers of mystery, mood, and spirit. Trained in art and fashion in college and following a career in her family’s retail clothing business, her desire to paint never left her. Living by Virginia waterways, she strives to capture the ethereal quality of light, whether sun saturated on a bright day or misty blue in fog. Her love of gardening and flower arranging intensifies her attention to nature’s forms, textures, balance, and the nuances of color. Each of Molly’s works has a singular significance of place, time, mood, and meaning. Subtle from afar, upon closer look one sees that each is complex and unique, with multiple layers. The underpaintings, as she calls them, compel you to look deeper as they reveal themselves in color variations and textures, drawing you in to touch. The initial layers seldom resemble the final painting, yet they remain with each deep stroke of a brush, evolving like life - never perfect in depiction but rich with intersecting lines, bumps, scratches, rhythmic swirls. Completed paintings are never rushed, with work rotated among others for days, or even weeks. Some are adjusted months later; others suddenly become underpaintings never to reveal themselves again except as one aspect contributing to the final result. The decision to buy a painting or work of art is highly personal. Art is intended to evoke emotion, and Molly’s canvases invoke recollections, reflections, aspirations, explorations, expectations. Purchasing requires evaluation, judgment, and choice, and it is her hope that her work will recall for you a happy day, a quiet calm, a sense of place, an inquiry, a hope, a reverie. She wants you to love what you select, invites you to inquire further, and thanks you sincerely for visiting today.
